CLAY DESCRIPTIONS and PHOTOS:
ROUGH-TEXTURED, GROGGY RED EARTHENWARE SCULPTURE CLAY: $950 pesos for a 25 kg/55 lb bucket
Our original recipe is a user-friendly, low to mid-temperature earthenware sculptural clay. The recipe is a formula of various Mexican clays. Our clay is ideal for beginners (and advanced artists) as it is strong and forgiving during all states of the construction, drying, and firing process. It is excellent for small, medium and large-scale coil and slab-building projects, although it was formulated for large through to monumental sculptures. Suitable for any size sculpture or funcional ware when a rustic finish is desired. The addition of a significant amount of large-mesh fireclay permits the construction of very large projects. It is a gritty clay, not smooth, however the same clay can be made into a liquid, strained, and used as a slip to allow for burnishing and other smooth surfaces. It has a shrinkage of 9.5% at Cone 04, up to a shrinkage of 11% at Cone 2. The clay's temperature range is between Cone 08 (955 Celcius / 1751 F) through to its maturation temperature at Cone 7 (1240 Celcius / 2264 F) . The colour ranges from medium dark iron oxide red at its lowest temperature, to a dark chocolate brown colour at its highest temperature. NOT SUITABLE FOR WHEEL WORK. We have clay available immediately for pick-up and/or shipping to anywhere within Mexico. Shipping must be arranged by buyer
